This is a shorthand way of thinking about categories of emotions. It’s a bit simplistic, but I still think it’s quite a good way of starting to think about what sorts of emotions we all have.

Note:

  • Depression is not an emotion. Depression can be a state of absence of feeling, therefore if one is depressed it would be an achievement – and a step in the right direction – to feel sad or angry.
  • Some people say they are ‘disappointed’ in order to avoid admitting they are ‘angry’.
  • Think about how are you express physically these emotions
